I think this might have been our most successful trip yet.
We raced home from work on Friday, loaded up the car with everything we own (why do kids require so much stuff?) including the dogs, and hit the road, or at least I wish it had been that easy. Instead we dropped the doggies off at doggie daycare, swung by my mom’s house to collect her and the munchkin, got some fast food dinner and then finally we were heading in the direction of Orlando for the weekend.
Savannah slept most of the way there, I’m still not sure if that was a blessing or a curse. Had we tried to keep her awake it would have resulted in cranky toddler but wide awake toddler at 11 p.m. wasn’t so great either.
Got up bright and early Saturday morning, had hotel breakfast and crammed into my car to go to the park. Small sedan + five adults + child in car seat ≠comfort, but parking is $14 per car and I’m cheap so I’d rather be uncomfortable myself (and therefore make James slightly uncomfortable) for a 10 minute drive than pay an additional $14.
We had one mission this trip, to see Handy Manny in person at Hollywood Studios. Not only did we see Disney Jr. live on stage (in air conditioned comfort no less) but Savannah got to MEET her beloved Handy Manny. At first she wasn’t so sure about him, but she did give him a high five and blow him a kiss as we were leaving. Mission accomplished.
After the excitement of meeting Handy Manny lunch and a nap were in order. James gets the superstar award here for getting a sleeping Savannah out of the stroller and into his arms for the bus and monorail rides to Magic Kingdom and then back into the stroller, a feat that should not be overlooked. Once she woke up we decided it was far too hot to be anywhere except the pool at the hotel so one real life choo choo ride (from the back of the Magic Kingdom to the entrance) followed by rides on the monorail, bus and tram we were in the 8,000 degree car and on our way to the lukewarm hotel pool where fun was had by all.
Here are the 5 pictures we took, two of which are from the hotel, and then those taken by the good folks at Disney World.
You may remember a post a while back where I talked about breastfeeding and a gripe I had with something a childhood friend had posted on Facebook. Well, she strikes again. This morning as I’m scrolling through my news feed, I come across this:
If someone had told me I would get a maximum of 5.5 hrs of sleep a night for over 2 weeks while {her child} was teething and as little as 2 hrs, I seriously would not have wanted kids.
I am seething and I cannot even comment on her post because it won’t be very nice, so instead I’ll say it here.
Ok, first of all. Welcome to the wonderful world of parenting! One thing that bothers me the most about this is that every month for over a year she would post how she was so upset because she wasn’t pregnant. Well, guess what? YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED. I have so many friends, acquaintances, co-workers, etc. that can’t have kids and would give their right arm to be able to carry their own child or heck, even take yours off your hands if you’re so freaking unhappy.
And I know what you’re probably thinking; gosh Brooke, have you considered maybe she has post-partum depression? And yes, I have considered it and while I don’t know much about PPD, I have read that it typically doesn’t last more than the first few months and her child is approaching his first birthday. Yes, there are special cases, but based on her other FB posts I don’t think PPD is the case.
Yes, sometimes you get a little less sleep than you’d like and sometimes you get a little more crying than you’d like but some days, most days, you get more smiles and laughter than you’d ever thought possible; these are things that come with having a child.
The other that really bothers me is she is a stay-at-home mom. Try getting by on 2-5 ½ hours of sleep and getting up and going to work the next day! And before I anger anyone, I KNOW that being a SAHM is not easy by any means and is often a lot more work than actually working. Hell, I’d give BOTH my arms to change places with her. Let her come sit at a desk all day and have the guilt of missing out on so much of her child’s life on top of less sleep than she’d prefer.
This is life with a child, get used to it.
We’re off to Disney again this weekend, I’ll be sure to post some pictures next week as well us a proper update on my child, who I think is the greatest thing since sliced bread regardless of how little sleep I get.
Normally Savannah is really good at pointing out whatever we ask her to in this book, this time she was more interested in 'reading' it herself.

Clearly I am terrible at keeping the blog up to date. Our computer was out of commission for a bit thanks to a certain toddler, but it’s been operational again for almost a month now so I don’t even have a good excuse…well, except for playing with Savannah. She is LOVING the longer days and so are we, it is so nice not to have to rush to get dinner on the table just so we can play outside before it gets dark.
As you can see, unless you're reading this via an RSS reader, I've changed the color scheme and we are no longer titled Princess Savannah but only because occasionally I might write about something other than her, but then again, maybe not considering how I've proven my excellence at keeping things up to date.
We’ve had a very busy few weeks with some sort of obligation every weekend…thankfully this weekend we have very little planned.
The weekend of March 12th was the River Run, while neither of us ran it we do have a tradition of going to Krystal’s afterward with a friend of ours and traditions are not made to be broken. And, we just happen to love Krystal’s so any reason is a good reason.
The next weekend, March 19th, we covered all parts of the city. I attended a bridal shower and then we went to a 1st birthday party literally all the way across town but both events were fun and for dear friends so no complaints from us!
Then on March 26th I participated in the 4th Annual MS Mud Run which is a 6 mile adventure race. Basically it is a run through, well, mud with boot camp style obstacles throughout the course. It was difficult but it was fun and it was for a great cause, huge thanks again to everyone who supported me through donations. I learned that I am definitely not cut out to be in the military and that getting really dirty isn’t so bad. I was sore for days afterward but I’m already looking forward to next year!
The next weekend we did what I am referring to as the Tour de Georgia…over 700 miles in 3 days. But, we got to see ALL the family and attend our nephews 1st birthday party so it was definitely worth the frustration of a cranky, cranky toddler who decided napping in the car and in general was overrated.
And that brings us to last weekend where I served as Matron of Honor as my lifelong friend, Sharri, married her soul mate. I am so thankful to have such a wonderful husband that is also an amazing father, he sucessfully kept Savannah quiet during the ceremony (she is quite the chatterbox these days e days) and the chased her around endlessly at the reception so that I could take care of all things wedding related. Thankfully Grandma ZZ was there as well so she was able to do a little toddler chasing of her own.
