2 months!

I can hardly believe that little Savannah is already 2 months old! I think James and I probably had the least experience in all things baby so I'm glad that we've somehow managed not to break her! And I'm proud to announce that she has made it thus far exclusively on breast milk - go me!!

She had a doctor's appointment this morning and had to get 4 shots and an oral vaccine, she cried with the shots but I'm certain that my tears lasted longer than hers. Hopefully she won't have any of the yucky side effects that often come with the vaccinations but if she does I have been given the go ahead to give her baby Tylenol.

She now weighs in at 11.4 lbs. and is 23 3/4" long (7 lbs. and 19.5" at birth) which puts her in the 75th percentile for height and weight.

Highlights of the past 2 months...

Learning the true meaning of projectile vomit: me sitting on the front edge of the couch cushion with baby on my shoulder and then having to wipe vomit off the back of the couch.

Experiencing my first 'blow-out' and figuring out the best way to get the kid, the clothes and the bouncy seat clean without getting poop on anything else. I have pictures that I took for James but I won't share those.

Figuring out which stain pre-treater is the best - Spray N' Wash hands down.

Finding that no matter how much crying or how little sleeping she does has no negative effects on how adorable I find her or how in love I am with her.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I wish I had a good excuse but I'm just lazy. I do have plenty of pictures to make up for it though!

Last Thursday we played with bubbles over at Grandma's house! She has started focusing on things in the past week so I think she was looking at the bubbles but she could have been fixated on the bricks behind my head for all I know. The quality of the pictures is not great, it was really humid that day so the lens kept fogging and it is rather difficult to blow bubbles and take pictures!

You should know by now that I love comparison photos, here are pictures of Savannah after her very first tub bath and then of a bath the other night - she's getting so big! (I blurred out her girly bits.)

AND, she has started smiling at things other than gas! I'm a bad mommy and didn't notice that she had spit up while I was taking pictures so just pretend it isn't there. It has been difficult to get a good picture of her smiling when I'm by myself so all we have for now is an open mouth grin.

Supergirl!

Another video for your viewing pleasure!

After about 10 minutes of trying everything known to man to quiet Savannah, James came up with the "Reverse Supergirl" and it worked instantly! Yay Dad!

Daycare

Friday was the hardest day I've had yet since becoming a mom...we went to look at daycare centers. :( I realize that most people try to take care of this while they're still pregnant or at the beginning of maternity leave instead of toward the end, but I kept hoping that maybe something would change (i.e. win Powerball) and I wouldn't have to worry about it.

During our childbirth education class we found out that the woman leading the class has raised and home-schooled 9 children of her own and also runs a home daycare, with that many kids of her own she obviously knows what she's doing! We visited her home first and while we weren't crazy about the actual neighborhood her home was perfectly fine. She has the same parenting principles/style that we think we'll eventually adopt so that is a real plus. She has a son and daughter still at home with her all day so we got to see them interacting with the other kids in her care (3 toddlers that she has been watching since they were infants) so that was wonderful, they really seem to enjoy being around the kids and vice versa. Savannah would be the only infant so we know she'd get tons of attention which is something I was really concerned about. With her kids being there it's almost a one-on-one ratio.

We also really liked the center at our church which was a real suprise to me. A co-worker checked it out for her twins and hated it, I'm not sure that she ever disclosed her reasons for not liking it because she didn't want to influence my decision in any way. We spent a long time talking to the director and obviously got a really good feeling about it. The ratio there for infants is 4:1 and they have a very low staff turnover rate, most of the workers have been there 10+ years and the shortest right now is 2 1/2 years.

We also checked out another home and couldn't get out of there fast enough. Everyone told me that we'd know the second we walked into a place whether or not we really wanted more information, it was so true. This particular provider was probably about our age, maybe a little older and seemed nice enough but the whole situation was just odd. Among other things, she has 2 sons - one is starting kindergarten and the other is 2, her mom lives there and has a child that is 2 - yep, she and her mom were pregnant together!

While we haven't made a final decision yet, we are leaning towards the home daycare for now. My mom is able to watch Savannah on Thursdays, Fridays and some Wednesdays and we are able to do a part-time rate with her. I also like that there are not as many children, I'm quite positive that less children has to equal less colds, ear infections, etc.

4000 words

If a picture is worth a thousand words then I figure video is easily worth 2000 words.

These videos are nothing exciting but my in-laws requested 'MORE VIDEO!!!' and I aim to please. In these clips you'll see my personal trainer making sure I get my exercise, just one of the many things I do to try to appease her during the day.

In this one I claim to be working out my biceps but James informed me, after seeing the video and laughing at me, that it's actually my chest. Whatever...

Balance

One of the hardest things for us over the past 6 weeks has been finding balance. Typically when James gets home from work I hand her off to him, sometimes I am counting the minutes until he gets home because I need a little break but mostly I really want him to be able to bond with her since he's been at work all day.

I realized though that I'm not really getting a break at all, during the daddy-daughter time I read a book or watch the news for a 15-20 minutes and then get dinner ready, eat, clean up dinner and let the dogs in and out 800 times. Prior to having Savannah I would make dinner and then James would clean up and we'd share the doggie duties. I should note that I bring this on myself, James offers to clean up every night but I always wave him off so he can have Savannah time.

I've noticed over the past week or so that James is becoming rather irritated in the evenings and last night I finally figured out why. Savannah typically does most of her crying between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. so screaming baby is pretty much all James gets. I think it's a little bit of her just getting it all out combined with being bored, James obviously wants to relax when he gets home and he is content with sitting in the chair watching TV or looking at something online. But, regardless of how many times you change her position, Savannah is not. I offer every night to take her off his hands and he refuses because he knows I need a break. That's very sweet and all but I know that 2 hours of non-stop crying in his ear isn't exactly his idea of a good time.

As I said, last night it finally clicked. He's at work all day so he needs time to unwind, he does want to spend time with Savannah but he also needs some time for himself. We could start the night-time routine a little earlier so that we both have a little time for ourselves in the evening but then when I go back to work in a couple weeks (I'm crying just thinking about it) what little time we'll have with in the evenings will be very rushed.

James put it well last night, it's a double-edged sword. We both needa little time for ourselves and each other but we wantto spend every minute that we can with her. Eventually we'll find the right balance.

Another First!

Savannah went swimming for the first time yesterday! It was really just for pictures since her "swimming" consisted of putting on her teeny tiny bathing suit and mommy holding her above the water and then dipping her in up to her knees.
